Backpack the Cumberland Trail (Eagle Bluff to Tank Springs) - March 30-31
The Cumberland Trail extends from Kentucky to Georgia, and one of the best sections is a short drive from Knoxville. The Eagle Rock section is perhaps the most geologically varied trail in east Tennessee and we're doing the eastern portion of that section. We'll drive up to Eagle Rock atop the plateau (above Jacksboro), then hike to the Tank Springs Trailhead near LaFollette, camping near a trail shelter along the way. We'll see a wonderland of rock along the edge of the Cumberland Plateau escarpment, ranging from a "Great Wall of China" to a stone arch and lookouts, with vistas of the Powell River valley and the Cumberland Mountains. Backpacking hiking mileage is around 5.1 miles total and the backpack is rated easy.
