Keeping Tennessee Green: Responsible Tourism in Pigeon Forge
"Reduce. Reuse. Recycle." The Earth Hour is a yearly reminder to put some time aside for our beautiful blue corner in the vast universe. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park gives a local perspective to what we are protecting. It is our mission to keep the waste out of landfills and away from this natural wonder.

Sevier County welcomes more than 15 million visitors every year and it is a matter of pride that our county has the highest recycling rate in Tennessee. Pigeon Forge Ramada pledges to continue doing our part in preserving this paradise by raising awareness on eco-friendly practices and encouraging responsible tourism.

Healthy Tips to become a Green Warrior in the Great Outdoors

Traveling responsibly is not about giving something up nor is it about making travel plans more complicated. Being appreciative of our surrounding environment and respecting the local community adds to a peaceful travel experience. It's not about you. "Leave the place like you found it" is the golden rule for sustainable travel. Here are some more healthy tips:

Eco-friendly Hiking & Outdoor Adventure Tips

Tip #1: Stay on the well-marked hiking trails. They have been designed and rebuilt with great care by Friends of the Smokies along with the Trails Forever Program; not only for your safety but also for the protection of nature and wildlife.

Tip #2: Avoid single-use plastic. Carry your own reusable straws, bags, utensils, and containers.

Tip #3: Carry your water. By taking a stand about not buying plastic water bottles, you will be doing the Earth a favor.

Tip #4: Leave-no-trace camping. Make sure that whatever you carry into camp, you carry it out with you. Smaller items like food scraps get overlooked. Do carry your own trash bag.

Tip #5: Leave only footprints behind. Be more mindful of not leaving your trash behind as it might attract animals and cause them harm.

Thinking Green at Local Fun Attractions

60% of the organic waste is composted and the reason why you might not see recycling bins in Dollywood or The Island is because the inorganic waste is separated from the organic after all the waste is turned into compost.

Dollywood is the most popular attraction of Pigeon Forge. Reopened this month, the fun family destination will be operating 5 days a week including weekends. There are about 40 exciting rides and attractions that promise an exhilarating day out with family and friends.

You can buy unlimited ride passes at The Island at attractive prices. Play laser tag with your friends or simply enjoy the view from the top of the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel. The Island is open all days of the week so the fun never stops.
